JBB’s Vinegar Slaw

[ Codex Entry // Field Manual Record ]

Gluten-Free • Egg-Free • Dairy-Free

Prep: 15 mins

Rest: 1 hour

Yield: 6–8 servings

The Veggies

  • 1 head cabbage (or 1/2 purple and 1/2 green), thinly sliced
  • 2 to 3 carrots, shredded
  • 1/2 purple onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 spoonful flaky kosher salt (applied directly to the cabbage)

The Dressing Matrix

  • 1/3 cup vinegar (rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1/4 cup sweetener (sugar, honey, or agave—to your preference)
  • 1/3 cup neutral oil (Sunflower oil is optimal. Note: standard vegetable oil contains soy; verify labels if managing soy sensitivities!)
  • A few drops of sesame seed oil (The clandestine core element)

Spices & Seasoning

  • White pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to your heart’s content
  • A pinch of chili powder or red pepper flakes
  • Parsley

Note: Always verify individual spice brand labels, as some commercial spices may contain gluten or wheat flour anti-caking agents. Experiment freely with certified safe aromatics!

Execution Sequence

  1. Prep the Vegetables: Thinly slice your cabbage and purple onion, and shred your carrots into a spacious mixing vessel.
  2. Salt and Retain Juices: Add a spoonful of flaky kosher salt directly to the raw veggies and toss. Let it rest while preparing the dressing. Core directive: Preserve the natural juices to establish an integrated brine!
  3. Mix the Dressing: In a separate receptacle, whisk together your vinegar, sweetener, oil, and the precise drop of sesame seed oil.
  4. Season: Introduce your selection of white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder/flakes, and dried parsley into the mix.
  5. Combine: Pour the dressing directly over the salted vegetable matrix (retaining all accumulated juices) and toss thoroughly.
  6. Chill & Serve: Seal and refrigerate for a minimum of one hour to allow flavor convergence. Re-toss immediately prior to presentation!

Archivist’s Note
Preserving the natural juices locks in the complete flavor profile, while the micro-dose of sesame oil delivers an unmistakable, savory closing note.
